Curriculum Vitae and Speech Content
Adam Swift is Professor of Political Theory at the University of Warwick. His books include Liberals and Communitarians (1996), How Not To Be A Hypocrite: School Choice for the Morally Perplexed Parent (2003) and Political Philosophy (2013). Family Values: The Ethics of Parent-Child Relationships (with Harry Brighouse) will be published in August.
The lecture will discuss the justification and extent of parents’ rights over their children. It will consider the difference between the right to parent and the rights of parents, and address whether adults have a right to parent their biological children, whether parents have the right to confer advantage on their children, and whether they have the right to raise their children in a religion.
